Nobody is worth €100m – Verratti

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti feels no footballer is worth the €105 million Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba.

United broke the transfer record previously held by Gareth Bale following his €100m move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013 to lure Pogba back to Old Trafford ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Verratti has also been valued at €100m by some, but the Italy international believes it is time to put things in perspective.

I am not worth €100 million, Verratti was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

We are just playing football. These amounts of money make me laugh. No one is worth that much.

And I think it is bad for the players for whom such fees are paid as well because people expect impossi…

Premier League: Newcastle 0 Manchester City 2

A Yaya Toure brace put Manchester City on the verge of their first league title in 44 years, with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

City were on top throughout but had to fend off multiple dangerous Newcastle counter-attacks, with Joe Hart denying Hatem Ben Arfa in the first half.

David Silva and Gareth Barry had already gone close before the away side finally found the breakthrough when Toure brilliantly curled a shot past Tim Krul after 70 minutes.

The Ivorian midfielder then converted from close range as City took advantage of Newcastle s push for an equaliser, with the win seeing Roberto Mancini s men climb three points clear of Manchester United with the latter to play later on Sunday.

Having established an effective defensive shield in the op…

Aston Villa 2 West Brom 0: Villa storm into semi-finals with derby triumph

Aston Villa beat West Brom 2-0 to claim local bragging rights for the second time in a week and book an FA Cup semi-final spot, but could face action from the Football Association following a late pitch invasion.

Christian Benteke netted an injury-time penalty to hand Villa a much-needed 2-1 Premier League triumph in midweek, but the Belgium international striker was absent when the teams reconvened at Villa Park on Saturday.

Tim Sherwood s team lacked attacking impetus in Benteke s absence and West Brom had the better of the first half following a glaring early miss from their forward Brown Ideye.

Villa were instantly more impressive in the second period, six minutes into which their captain Fabian Delph netted.

West Brom s Claudio Yacob collected a …

Transfer target Ramirez happy to stay

Gaston Ramirez said his objective is to secure a move to a big club this summer, but he would have no problem remaining at Bologna.

The Uruguay international is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Serie A and he is rumoured to have attracted the interest of Inter Milan, while it has already been revealed that Manchester City lead the Premier League pursuit of the attacking midfielder.

However, Bologna president Albana Guaraldi has warned that the club will not allow Ramirez to leave the Renato Dall Ara unless one of the interested parties meets their reported 20-million-euro valuation of the 21-year-old, a stance that the player finds perfectly understandable.

If there is not an interesting offer, one which suits both the club and myself, I w…

Sources at City expect the deal to be completed within days as they look to free up their wage budget and spaces in their squad to make a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie.

The Premier League champions had hoped for a bidding war for Adebayor following interest earlier in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, but Tottenham have emerged as the only option.

Adebayor, 28, made it clear he was eager to return to White Hart La…
